League, Program and Event Information

Leagues

Competitive

WCC has several competitive leagues where you can test your mettle against some of Whitehorse’s best curlers.

Recreational

And for those who are more in the game just for the love of it, WCC has several recreational leagues.

Programs

Juniors

The Junior Program includes curlers ranging from 8 years of age: just learning how to throw a curling rock, to highly skilled 16-20 year olds competing at territorial and national levels. Appropriate instruction is offered at each level of development, i.e. novice, intermediate and advanced with adult coaches ultimately being recruited for those teams reaching a competitive level. Curling games: normally eight ends in adult play, are 4 to 6 ends for Juniors.

When
Thursdays from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm.

What to bring
Please bring clean gym shoes and dress warm.

Fees
- Annual $5 Club membership fee plus $65 for half season play or $100 for full season Junior League
- Junior curlers are exempt from the $100 Club Support fee. For friends of curlers, there is a drop-in fee of $7 each Thursday.

In addition to an instructor, there are Club adult member volunteers on the ice each session to help the junior curlers learn the skills required to improve their level of play and to ensure their safety and enjoyment. The social side of the sport is experienced by the curlers each Thursday and during Club activities. As Club members they can attend and invite and sign in family and friends in to bonspiels.

Juniors: Bring a friend
The Junior Program presents a bring a friend opportunity for Juniors: when they bring a non-curling friend to the Thursday Junior League to learn the game, the Junior’s name can be entered (up to twice) for a special prize draw. Prizes are awarded at the end of each 1/2 season. For more information, just ask the instructor, volunteers or the Club Business Manager.

Rockers

The perfect start for kids! Ages 5 and up have fun with curling while receiving skill instruction, organized games and other fun activities in this very popular youth program.

Boys and girls are taught how to correctly deliver a curling rock; understand the strategy of the game; understand the importance of good sportsmanship and the etiquette of the sport as well as the value of being part of a team. The Curling Club provides equipment for curlers (sliders and brooms) to use during each seven week session of the season.

When
Saturdays from 10:30 am until noon.

What to bring
Please bring clean gym shoes and dress warm.

Fees
$25 for seven sessions or $40 for fourteen sessions over the full curling season.
